We took a trip down to L'America...
14th December, 2005
A big thank you to those who supported us during our recent US dates. We met some wonderful people and played in some wonderful venues with some wonderful artists. So a big thank you to everyone for your hospitality! We'll be posting some pictures over the next couple of weeks.
Phantasmagoria
20th October, 2005
It's been an amazing couple of days for us for at least a couple of amazing reasons! We finally got to share the stage with Semble - one of the most incredible bands who make music of such majesty, grace and sheer magic. It's taken a year for this to happen. It was well worth the wait. Also, we did two concerts in two nights with our new friend, the mightily talented and charismatic Natasha Alexandra, who came all the way from New York (though Canada first)! We have some concerts lined up with Natasha in New York, and beyond, over the next couple of months. So, does that make it a world tour?!? All the best from us - with our heads in the clouds.
Neil Dons The Producer's Cap
17th October, 2005
This very afternoon, I put down my guitar, got the valves in the pre-amps smoking, the VU meters hitting the red, turned the lights down low, got some coffee, lit some candles, you get the idea... and recorded a couple of tracks with Darren Plant. We are both very happy with the results and you can hear them here! Let us know what you think - add Darren as a MySpace friend and leave a comment!

"Mandala played it…"
25th September, 2005
We played at the One Taste Festival today, in the beautiful Bedford in Balham. It was a great day and it was fantastic to share the stage with some truly amazing musicians! Our set was introduced by the outrageously charismatic Dr. Stew, who, in a very rock and roll fashion, wrote down this verse for us on a scrap of paper just after our set...
“Music is a republic - the kind of free form that dictates. The blues lay down the law, while jazz disobeys, while rock'n'roll muscled in, the almighty funk just played it, so go on, Mandala played it.”

Forthcoming Releases!
25th June, 2005
We're very proud to announce that we are about to release two EPs! ‘Before Memory’ features the electric orientated songs, which have become live favourites, such as ‘The Dark Waltz and ‘Fire Is Mine’. ‘The Tears Of A Thousand Angels’ represents a more reflective and melancholic side, and features lushly layered vocals and mellotron, as in ‘Shadows Play’ and ‘Spoken’.
The EPs will be available from the 26th of July, when we will be playing at the Bedford Globe Theatre - more details of this will be on the concerts page very soon.
More information, running order and previews of the EPs will be posted here very soon...
Independent Review
11th May, 2005
We've recently had a review of our performance at the Night Of Folk-Noir published in the Independent magazine London&More. “A knife-edge atmosphere with intricate and delicately poised arrangements...”
The full version can be read on the press page
Culminations
6th May, 2005
Our next concert, at the Spitz on the 18th of May, will be the debut of the new double trio. Half haunting and sparse beauty. Half dark and almost sheer brutal force
The beauty and the darkness in tangible form
We've taken the songs to another new level and they have risen, becoming even more grandiose epics with a pure character of their own. But don't take our word for it! Full details are on the concerts page
Caption Competition
11th April, 2005
The winner of April's caption competition was Elliot Jay Stocks from the leafy pastures of Sourhaze.
“Tomorrow Mandala are playing at The Space; here's a picture of them last week... in space!”
Online Shop Now Open!
24th March, 2005
It's been a long time coming, but we can now proudly unveil the Mandala Shop! It looks a bit sparse at the moment, but over the coming weeks, months and years we'll be adding stuff to it and it'll be great! But for now, bask in the beauty of its' minimalism and feel free to buy the EP whilst you're there. Shop!
An Imminent 'Night Of Folk-Noir'
18th March, 2005
As you have presumably just seen on our front page, and possibly seen or heard in some other places as well, we're taking part in the very first 'Night Of Folk-Noir'. This will be happening in the Bluejay Lounge on the 29th of March and promises to be an eventful evening for many reasons! The night will see us unveiling a new line up of Neil Marsh (voice and guitars), Francis Booth (bass and electronics), Will Spurling (drums), Corinna Robins (violin), Tim Bowen (cello) and Kerry-Fleur (voice). If we had some of those 'Mandala smiley face emoticon things' to hand we'd be tempted use the one with the big grin! Also appearing will be Catherine Anne Davies and Darren Plant - both of whom are fantastically talented. The flyer, poster and press release are available on and via the concerts page!
Details For Then
9th March, 2005
It's come to our attention that our concert tomorrow is logistically a fair challenge, at least it's proving to be a fair challenge to us. The evening will begin at 19:45 in the Bear On The Square and will then move to the Slaughtered Lamb at about 21:00. The admission is £4 and that gets you in to both venues, which are both just off Clerkenwell Road in EC1. We will be playing at the Slaughtered Lamb along with William Hut and our sets will begin at about 21:30. So, you can either go to both venues to see all four acts or come straight to the Slaughtered Lamb from about 20:00 and have a pre-gig chat with us. I'm sure it really isn't that confusing... Either way, it promises to be a great evening! Another detailed explanation of the logistics can be found on the Electro Acoustic Club website
To Quell Your Fervour
8th February, 2005
We're spending the majority of this month locked away in our studio, feverishly working on new sounds and songs, and will begin to unveil the fruits of our labours over the coming months. Whilst we were playing around with old songs in new ways we came up with this little reworking of Lost For Words, which we liked so much we decided to make it available as a download! Exciting times lie ahead and we'll be sure to post happenings here hopefully before they happen!
Thank you...
26th January, 2005
... to all who supported us at the Bluejay Lounge over the past month, to all the other acts with whom we shared the stage and all those involved in the running of the evenings and the venue. It was announced last night that, from the midst of a plethora of talent, we will be going through to the grand final - to also be staged there in summer. It's quite a good job that we love the place then!
Bluejay Line Up
17th January, 2005
A change to the advertised line up... This Bluejay concert will feature Neil and Francis on electric guitar and bass respectively. That's only the second amendment to the email. We're good we are!
Revision Of Dates
13th January, 2005
In answer to the many questions regarding our most recent email, which said we'll be playing at the Bluejay Lounge in December 2005, we can confirm that this is pure speculation and should be taken with a pinch of salt... 'Twas simply the fabled administrative error. Fear not, the guilty party has been dutifully reprimanded and promises never to do it again. Correct details are on the concerts page
New...
6th January, 2005
2005?!? Firstly, a Happy New Year from all of Mandala to all of you! Once again it's the time of resolutions, plans, fresh focus, perspectives... The collective sleeves of Mandala are bustling with many excited ideas that will be unveiling themselves during the course of the next few months. We'll be kicking off the year with a couple of concerts at our new favourite place: the Bluejay Lounge. Beautiful venue, decor, scenery, atmosphere, wine... If you haven't been there yet then you must! Details are on the concerts page. One final thought: in the words of the immortal, and Francis, hang loose!
Lounging In The Bluejay
12th December, 2004
We're currently involved in a series of quite high profile concerts at the Bluejay Lounge in Shepherds Bush...
it's a beautiful underground jazz venue with an incredible atmosphere, great leather sofas and a rather fine house red. The premise of the evenings is to showcase the adaptation and versatility of an artist and their material and show how they can develop over a given (and fairly short) amount of time. So, if you were wondering... there you have it. It's quite an honour to have been invited to be part of such a thing. Visit the concerts page for details of the next one
Marquee Media
6th December, 2004
